Apologies if anyone is actively following this blog, but i've been feeling extremely lazy lately. Yea, everything is quite last minute this sem, and i'm not very proud to say something like this. And my insistence to start my day after class has forced me to sleep very late, so that i can just wake up and go for my afternoon class straight, and then start my day. If i had morning classes then i'd probably have a more normal life.
I realise blogging is the only avenue which i can tell Shirui all the things that I would like her to know but that she would probably not be interested at all because it's A) not her interest, B) too technical or C) pure crap. But either ways, this is like the rest of the unsaid junk.
Maybe she actually wants to know some stuff, but due to that i can't explain very well via spoken words so at least i have the chance to sit down and think over how i can explain it properly, and she can reread at her own pace if she fails to understand anything.
I've been "digitally acquiring" lotsa FLAC (free lossless audio codec) music lately. For the uninformed, FLAC is lossless, so it's equivalent to CD quality. But CDs in digital form occupies lotsa space, so it has to be ripped into mp3s. And its only meaningful if u rip mp3s from CDs, cos garbage in = garbage out.
And i've realised that it's only meaningful if u rip into VBR (variable bitrate), because constant bitrates like 192kbps means that you will overconvert on parts of the song that doesnt require such a high bitrate (=waste disk space) and you will underconvert on parts of the song that require a higher bitrate (= loss of audio quality). So only VBR will account for such variations, and we shld all rip into VBR, even though it sounds very scary.
And after much research, here's how to do it in a simple and painless way:
1) download ur FLAC via.... Bukit Timah.
2) Convert ur FLAC files into wav files using FLAC Frontend (google)
3) Convert ur wav files into VBR MP3 using Lame Frontend (google)
4) Enjoy high quality music
In the rare event that the FLAC is actually one giant single CD instead of separate songs:
1) Download and convert into wav as usual
2) Split wav using Exact Audio Copy (google)
3) Enjoy high quality music
The main reason im doing all this is because i've been listening to more metal music lately, and some of it really sound too mashed up. I can't hear the guitars, i can't hear the bass, i can't hear anything clearly. Of course this is partly due to the fuckedupness of the music i listen to, but i'd still like some clarity amidst the mess. So yea, FLAC to the rescue.
I'm starting to touch alittle bit of guitar partly due to this song:
The intro riff caught my ear the first time i heard it from andy's phone. And it's very challenging to play on the guitar as well due to the arpeggios. I wonder how someone can write such a lick, cos it's really weird to play, and the notes are all over the place on the fretboard. Unless it came from the keyboards, which is then translated to the guitar, but i doubt so. So moral of the story, the guitarist from Nightwish is very zai.
I have a nagging deltoid strain, and probably some tendonitis in my left heel. Both will probably go away with sufficient rest, but i just can't stop working out. I really love the feeling of my feet inside the ice tub after every intense game, but my mom keeps nagging at me and says that i will get rheumatism. I mean, if Ray Allen does it after every game, i should be fine right?
This is the reason why Jordan is the greatest player ever:
It's scary to play against such defenses. It's like playing against 5 YWs. And that's not a compliment to you YW. You injure people and you don't care. That's very fucked up.
Ok gotta go. Presentation's tml. Wish me luck
