It just gets tiring to keep reading about how the country is failing. There are many many cock-ups in the country, which if you bother to read and find out, you will realise that we are not that awesome after all. The thing is, we don't have a whistle-blowing culture here, and people generally don't care as long as it doesn't affect them directly. Probably some do care, but they feel like they can't do anything about it.
I think it's important that everyone maintain some level of moral integrity, but that would be too idealistic. Especially in this country, where money talks, and you are judged by how much u earn and what you have. I try my best to break away from this. I don't yearn to work in the private sector, and i find value working in the service and hopefully be able to contribute in some way. It's easy to lose your soul chasing profits, and in the end, it's immaterial. I just hope to lead a simple but meaningful life.
JQ likes to compare his salary with our peers working in banks, and he always get frustrated cos his 2nd upper police officer pay is not even close to someone with a pass degree working in a bank. If only we were all paid based on our test scores. I really don't mind getting less, instead of swindling people from their hard earned money into buying stuff that they don't need. Honesty has no value in this world. It's sad.
Sometimes i wonder if i should have children. I met a lady in Ubin a few years back who told me that it is cruel to have children as the world is too fucked up (not exact words). I didn't think much back then because i was still young, but now it seems to make more sense.
Food for thought.
