More Sugar in Food Supply = More Diabetes

Wow. You don't say?

An Economist on the Oscars

I have never understood the fascination with the Oscars. To me, it's just an annual list of movies that I should watch to see what the fuss is all about. Every year, i will wait for the list of nominees/winners to be released, then i proceed to utorrent to begin the collection. Usually, i don't watch the movies, especially if i have a game on hand (cos my games are more important than movies). I'll just store, and sometimes i will delete if someone else had watched a film and highly discouraged me from wasting my time on that particular film.

I feel that giving awards for something unmeasurable is just plain bullshit. It becomes an exercise of buying votes, rubbing shoulders with the right people, saying something is good just because other industry "experts" think so too. It's just plain hypocrisy.

So what if this film has won 10 awards? If i don't like it, it's shit to me. And i will tell everyone not to waste their time on this film. The awards are meaningless really.

And the Avengers is a good film.

[MAS CAR LOAN] SINKIES ARE SPOILT . . . DON'T GIB ME SEXCUSE WHAT WAIT TILL I HAVE CHEWREN. . .

I think this thread is worth reading, to get a general sense of what people are thinking about with regards to the new car loan policy. I wouldn't say either side is correct/incorrect in their thoughts, but it's all a matter of perspective, and also a willingness to accept the policy/fight the policy.

My opinion is: The car is a form of convenience. And with the current state of public transport, the utility of the car is so much higher than before, which leads to higher demand and higher price (due to the bidding system). Naturally, some people will overextend themselves, so the govt steps in to ensure that only people who can truly afford it, will be able to purchase the car (most likely rich or financially prudent). I think this measure will eliminate some potential bidders from the market, so probably the COE prices will drop slightly.

If one is rich, this measure would probably have minimal impact, probably just less cash on hand, and therefore no QQ. I guess then the main complainants are those who either can barely or can't afford to buy a car in the current state of affairs, which then implies they have little cash or are unwilling to part with that cash.

For those who really cannot afford it, then sorry to you, because with or without the new ruling you are already out of the game. So to get your car, either you improve yourself by making more money somehow, or you change the rules by changing the govt (but no guarantees for the better). Or you suck it up and accept that you've lost in this game, and change your life to adapt without a car. Many generations have passed by without a car in their lives, they can do it, so you can do it too.

For those who can barely afford a car, then the question becomes how much does one really need it? Most of the reasons given are about transporting old people/children/pregnant wife/potential gfs around. So one needs to assess how often is that, and can the traveling be reduced/removed. This is a question of frequency, and therefore justifies one's need for a car. If it's frequent enough (like daily transportation of disabled family member), then yes you need a car for that, and you have to adjust your spending accordingly to account for the increased cost. If it's not frequent enough, then one has to reframe his/her thinking and probably save up the money for better use (even though pay for convenience is a valid use too).

Wise words. Find yourself. Be yourself.
