A few months back, I caught on this Paleo Diet thingy, and I must say it has transformed my life (or at least my waistline). You see, a few months back, due to whatever reasons, my clothes just grew increasingly tighter. I have terrible IBS, especially at work, and was just in very bad shape (in my opinion) even though I worked out daily.
So I stumbled upon this site called Nerdfitness via Art of Manliness, and got intrigued. I mean, computer games, superheroes and fitness, that's totally me! So i read and read, and after countless testimonials, I finally realised that the key ingredient to attain the ideal body is................. THE DIET, aka the food that you put into your mouth.
All along, I've always thought that i should be able to eat what I want as long as I maintain a sufficiently high level of exercise. But that's not completely true. To put it simply, exercise only keeps you fit. You can run, jump, lift heavy weights, be very flexible etc. Diet, on the other hand, determines your look. Without a good diet, you will still look flabby, fat, undefined etc. Think of all the olympic lifters, sumo wrestlers or even people in your neighbourhood gym. No doubt they are strong, but come on, they look fat.
I wanna be fast and strong, and I wanna look ripped as well. Like Bruce Lee. Omg Bruce Lee is so awesome.
So i tried the Paleo Diet as recommended by Nerdfitness. In very simple terms, it means just eating meat and vegetables. And very little carbohydrates. Fruits are fine, but some don't recommend overeating them as they contain sugar, which is a carbohydrate. This worked out pretty well for me as I love eating meat! And within 4 months (I started in March), I lost so much body fat that I can put my 2 hands through a pair of bermudas which I couldn't fit in previously. Yes my tummy was that bad.
Nowadays, I eat chap chai peng (mixed rice) everyday at work. Without the rice. I try to select 1 egg, 1 vegetable, 1 pork, 1 chicken and 1 fish. My mom cooks at home, so i have no control over the food, but i skip the rice. When eating out, I try to eat either CCP or western (skip the fries). Quite often, I will order a whole spring chicken (BBQ is better but usually the stall is left with the fried one). In general, I will eat it as long as it is whole food. Oh and no drinks with sugar. So it's plain water or kopi/teh o kosong.
It's quite tough to eat out here, because our diet is very carb heavy. But here's a list of food that I eat when I'm out:
- CCP w no rice and no fried random processed meats like nuggets hotdogs fillets.
- Western minus fries
- Tenderfresh Spring Chicken
- Bak Kut Teh
- Pig Organ Soup
- KFC (haha!)
- Japanese (Skip the carbs)
Looks very sinful, but actually it's very healthy. Shan't bother to explain, gotta read up yourself.
I wouldn't say I am extremely strict with this diet. Once in a while i will eat some junk like chocolates or whatever random bullshit my colleagues buy (to maintain a harmonious relationship). But in general, i avoid all carbs and sweet stuff, and stick to my meat and vegs.
Now, i look so much better (hello 6 packs), can train so much harder without the extra fat on me, and eat so much happier (i really love meat). If only someone had told me this earlier.
Life is good.
